My name is Richard Taylor; I am the creator of Monkey Bum, which is entirely my own solo work, however, I do have a friend playing bass for live shows.
I have been writing music for a very long time; however, I only really got into this genre of music when I started training as a sound engineer a few years ago. I think of it as my best work to date, but like all musicians, I am always striving to better myself.
My music could be described as synth pop/electro rock. It features electronic, digital synths, and acoustic instruments, predominantly guitars.
I hope my music is different from others; however, quite an obvious influence would be The Postal Service and Of Montreal. I am also heavily interested in the works of Jeff Mangum and The Books.
I am very interested in experimenting with new ideas; for example, my latest song (Experiment 9.2) incorporates a poem I wrote, spoken by several people from around the world, although mostly England. Using the power of the Internet, I gathered these samples from people on forums, all of which were happy to help me out, and have given me permission for use in my own personal work.
I hope you enjoy what I have to offer, and I look forward to your response.
